The Sydney metropolitan area has a population of over 4 million and covers over 1120 square kilometres.
Sydney Chapter reaches from the Hawkesbury River in the north to the Port Hacking River in the south, from the eastern seaboard to Blacktown in the west where it overlaps with the Greater Western Sydney Chapter (Note: the brown shading on the map at right almost perfectly mirrors the area of Sydney covered by the Chapter; the shaded area to the west of Blacktown is part of Greater Western Sydney Chapter).
The membership is spread over this large geographical area and due to Sydney’s traffic congestion, members meet at various locations at north and south venues for convenient access and within a reasonable travel time.
Various events are planned at the beginning of each year which include meetings, site visits, bus tours, self-drive field trips, factory tours etc. as well as a Christmas Party to end each year.
Agendas are intended to be interesting to members, offer variety and to be educational. The focus is on continual learning and self-development of our Members.
Members meet monthly on a Wednesday evening, arriving from 5.00pm for a 5.30pm meeting start time. Meetings finish around 7.30pm and include a meal either before or after the meeting. The dates are planned to avoid school holidays and State of Origin Rugby League matches in order to attract attendance. Refer to the calendar of events for dates.
Normal meetings have a theme and may include a sponsor’s presentation, a trade/technical speaker, members presenting an interesting subject or project, Q&A sessions, discussing architectural and practice matters etc.
Members assist each other to achieve the highest standards of professionalism in their design and documentation of client’s projects for sustainable solutions and with respect for the Environment.
A Mentoring Program is available to Students to support them in their transition to competent building designers.
All Members, including Students, are strongly encouraged to attend as many events as possible for the opportunity for continuing professional development and networking with peers.
