COMPETENCY STANDARDS FOR
PROVISION BUILDING DESIGN SERVICES.
The Building Designers Association of Australia has published Competency Standards for Provision Building Design Services.
The recently released “Review of Legislation Regulating the Architectural Profession” by the Productivity Commission recommended greater reliance on self-regulation and also some underpinning by state regulatory authorities, based on competency rather than academic qualification.
This initiative by the BDAA to clearly state the expected skills of building designers will permit all designers to submit themselves to a transparent process for accreditation.
Building Designers Associations in most States and Territories are now working on accreditation models and are seeking discussions with their governments to develop a process to accredit building designers.
In Queensland, discussions are well advanced with the Queensland Building Services Authority. In NSW, the accreditation model has been finalised and submitted to government authorities.
