With South East Queensland’s population expected to grow by almost 2 million people over the next 25 years, it is vital that we deliver housing to accommodate this growth. Strategically, we need to do this with a weighted mix of consolidation and expansion. To accommodate the additional 200,000 people in Noosa and the Sunshine Coast, the dwelling benchmark target is to supply 63% through consolidation.
There’s now an increased need to deliver the product we’re missing in the middle.
This is your unique opportunity to hear directly from Queensland Government Architect Malcolm Middleton OAM, on the State’s QDesign Initiative, and its potential strategy for accommodating increasing density in regional areas.
Council is developing a Design Strategy for the Sunshine Coast Council area to inspire and encourage good design of new communities, buildings, streets and spaces. Join us for presentation on updates of Sunshine Coast Design Strategy, QDesign, missing middle and the design challenge of densification.
Council Engagement activities so far
From September 2018 – February 2019, design professionals, planners, developers, professional bodies, community groups, the wider community and Council; all took part in a wide range of engagement activities to develop the draft Sunshine Coast Design Strategy’s values and design principles.
To understand the community’s values, we asked:
- What are the 5 distinct characteristics of the Sunshine Coast that you value and enjoy?
- How are the characteristics of the Sunshine Coast translated into built and landscape outcomes?
- How do we make sure that these distinct qualities are part of our future as we grow?
Based on this feedback, we have developed 4 fundamental values and 9 design principles which will be presented at the event.
Now we want to know – did we get it right?
