In planning the new design of a luxury hotel in Newark, Ohio, building designers are thinking outside the basket.

Soon a seven-story building that likens a picnic basket—handles and all—will morph into a luxurious hotel. Formerly the home of the Longaberger basket company headquarters, the Big Basket building has stood unoccupied for several years.

The building was purchased in 2017 by developer Steve Coon of Coon Restoration & Sealants and Bobby George. And according to The Columbus Dispatch, the basket building will become a hotel in 2020.

Recently opened for a public tour as part of a fund-raiser to benefit Heritage Ohio, an organisation dedicated to the preservation and revitalisation of historic buildings, the basket building has been deemed the world’s largest basket. And those who stay at this luxury hotel are bound to sleep better than a baby in a basket!
